Our guidelines and policies
Review guidelines
We provide a reviews service in good faith for the benefit of the air-cooled community. We do not endorse or approve any reviews on the site.
Posting positive comments
We want to reward good work and service, but the most helpful reviews are ones that give specific examples. Make the most of your review:
- tell us what impressed you and why
- be specific
Posting negative comments
If you have received particularly bad service from one of the specialists featured on the site, please take care when writing your review.
Unnecessary and/or untruthful comments may, at best, mean your review is removed, at worst provoke legal action from the subject.
To avoid this nasty business, please follow the rules below:
- Calm down
- If your blood's boiling, now is not the time to be writing a rational review. Chill out and come back later.
- Don't draw conclusions
- Rather than saying "my door was scratched by the mechanic", say "I noticed my door had been scratched when I got it back from the mechanic".
- Don't exaggerate
- If the welding you had done wasn't quite perfect, don't make out that it was absolutely awful. Be reasonable.
If you post comments that could be considered defamatory, we may be obliged to remove your comments. No one wants that - be nice.
Absolute no-no's
We automatically check each review against the following criteria on submission. We cannot accept:
- reviews without a valid e-mail address
- reviews under ten words
- reviews containing profanity
- reviews containing URLs
- HTML in reviews
- more than one review of each specialist per person
We reserve the right to remove any review without giving a reason and without the reviewer's permission.
Reporting reviews
Although we want to encourage the posting of fair reviews, we cannot tolerate defamation. We want to protect our community as well as serve it (just like NYPD). To that end, we provide a reporting system.
Visitors with accounts can report reviews containing defamatory (or otherwise offensive) material. All reports are taken very seriously - reported reviews are automatically removed from the site and replaced with a message whilst we investigate the claims made.
(Just in case you were wondering, defamation can be described as an untruthful written or spoken statement that damages the reputation of the statement's subject in the eyes of a reasonable person.)
Privacy policy
We are committed to preserving your privacy and security.
Creating accounts
Visitors who create an account are required to provide some basic information (name, e-mail address and a password).
This information is used to identify you when you log in to the website so that you can take advantage of extra features provided to account holders such as adding new contacts, writing reviews and being notified when new reviews are added to pages of your choice.
Account information will not be used for any purpose other than for what it was intended. It will never be passed to third parties.
Use of your e-mail address
We need to record your email address as we may need to contact you about any information you add to the website. Your e-mail address will not be publicly displayed on the site and will never be passed on to a third party.
We will only contact you:
- if you asked to receive information about new developments on the site when you created your account
- on the rare occasion that we have no choice (eg there is a problem with your account)
- if a review posted by you is claimed to be defamatory
